Go Solo - Launch Your Fractional Career [the course]

I'm turning my fractional work journey into a course this fall

This fall, I'll be leading a 6-week remote course called, Go Solo: Launching Your Fractional Career. The paid course will run weekly (fully virtually) from September 10 - October 15. You can read more about what we'll cover and register here: https://gosolo.work/.

This course will feature content from my new ebook and include custom modules designed to help participants incorporate AI workflows and tools into their fractional work. The course investment is $550, which includes all materials, access to a peer cohort of fellow fractionals, and a copy of my ebook, Go Solo: How to Flourish as a Fractional Worker.

As I mentioned on the Rehash podcast last week, after initially struggling to find a job in the journalism industry after graduating in the midst of a recession 15 years ago, I've made it my personal mission to both be as versatile as possible in my career, and also help others see their own versatility.

I continue to believe that fractional work is a critical component of the learning stack for the next generation of learners and workers. With advanced technologies like blockchain and AI accelerating the rate of product development, content creation, publication, and deployment, a new model of what it means to be an entrepreneur is emerging.

This next era of entrepreneurship will invite many more possibilities for what it means to conceptualize, fund, prototype, grow, and scale a business toward successful outcomes. It's an era where people can wear many hats at once, where teams can come together and snap apart like Lego Bricks, and where work is no longer viewed as a singular job or career, but as a continuum that adapts and pivots alongside the dynamism of our everyday lives.

In my rooftop container garden, where I maintain a portfolio of about 100 plants, I noticed several weeks ago that a weed had begun to grow on the ground next to one of my plants. It didn't live inside any container, but the grass had sprouted roots in a divoted area that frequently collects water after the rain. Over time, I've watched the plant strengthen its roots and continue to grow, snaking its way along the exterior of my container without once touching soil. Today the grass has sprouted yet another offshoot and stands about two feet tall.

The idea that we can establish roots and flourish outside of traditional containers is an inspiring vision for the future of work. But adopting a highly modular, growth mindset isn't something that happens overnight. It requires consistent, long-term, incremental changes in behavior. We need to learn to look at our work and our lives in a more collective whole. We need to recollect and reinforce our own learning preferences. And we need to find other people to play in the sandbox with us.

Speaking of growth outside traditional boundaries, I'm excited to share that I built the website for this course in a single evening, from end to end using AI tools—without writing a single line of code. (Hat tip to Ben's Bites yet again here). For most of my career, as a non-engineer, I always felt that the entry point for building a software business was out of reach. But that’s no longer the case. This experience made me even more certain that AI and fractional work can unlock new opportunities for everyone.

I hope to offer a little bit of that guided learning through this course. So if you're fractionally curious (or have any friends who might be interested), please consider signing up and to join us on your journey to Go Solo.
